Article: James Bond - Sartorial Icon of the Silver Screen

James Bond - Sartorial Icon of the Silver Screen

James Bond - Sartorial Icon of the Silver Screen

Who doesn’t have a secret spot for Agent 007?
Many of us have fond memories watching James Bond in action. Be it cars, watches or sartorial choices, this fictional hero promoted good taste for men for decades. With the arrival of “No Time to Die”, our team at Sartoriale thought that it's just timely to recreate our favorite looks worn by 007. Also to show you how to wear them in real life.
The peak lapel tuxedo
Black tie for men is all about appropriate appearance. From the fabric selection to the styling details, everything ought to be perfect and understated. Bond had worn different iterations over the decades, be it a shawl collar or a double breasted jacket. Our recommendation is the one button front style with peak lapels, as seen in the movie “Die Another Day”. Timeless and rakish at the same time, you’ll never go wrong with this style.
The grey mohair suit

Prized for its elegant sheen, breathability and crease resistance, mohair is woven from the hair of the angora goat. Tailored as a two piece suit, it is an instant classic, as proven by Sean Connery, in the movie “Dr. No”. The fact that the recent iteration from Sartoria Castangia is styled and tailored in a similar way, shows that the key for men in dressing is not revolution but refinement. White shirt, dark tie and black oxford shoes from Passus are as classic accoutrements as they get and create a complete outfit which will make you look like a million dollar.

The Tan Suit

Tailoring for the height of summer is always a tricky task to manage with aplomb. Over the decades, the tan suit was the right answer for 007 numerous times.Think about the classic gabardine suit worn by Roger Moore in the “A View to a Kill'' or the lightweight tropical wool version sported by Daniel Craig in'' Spectre ``. We are fans of the unconstructed option offered by Boglioli, an informal and seriously cool take on the style. Dress it up for summer weddings or wear it casually at the finest restaurants during your holidays.

The Double-Breasted Navy Blazer

Moving on from suits to smart casual territory: a double-breasted blazer is one of the calling cards of the sartorially inclined. As much as we love the classic version (trimmed with brass buttons) worn by Pierce Brosnan in “Goldeneye”, here we are recommending a more subtle version of this tailoring icon. Cut from lightweight cotton and fully canvassed in the finest iteration of true Neapolitan tailoring tradition, this Cesare Attolini piece has a casual allure, which fits the vibe of our times. It looks equally great with pique polo shirts from Fedeli and white linen shirts worn open. Finish off the look with bright colored cotton trousers and a loafer of your choice. We believe Pierce Brosnan would approve of this new casual double-breasted look too.

The suede blouson

There isn’t a more tactile garment created for men than a suede blouson jacket. Luxurious goat suede cut to accentuate the body and styled with minimal detailing are the key aspects to make this style work. Simplicity creates the best impression here, as it did in the movie “Spectre”. 007 played by Daniel Craig shows off this style to its best advantage. Look no further, to get the style, than this chocolate brown Kilgour piece. Paired with navy blue or light grey it is the epitome of understated, casual cool style. Perfect for any weekend endeavours.

Beach Blues

Lightweight and breathable cotton and linen fabrics, shorter than usual shorts and the brightest of blues. Your beach style is sorted. Yes, you can say you only need a pair of flip flops and some swim shorts, but it's really not enough to feel comfortable in a nice al fresco restaurant or a beautiful hotel lobby. Wear yours slightly fitted but not too tight, a’la Sean Connery in “Dr. No”. In the end, summer is all about comfort and relaxation. In style too.

+1 “No Time To Die”

Utilitarian and lethal, we instantly got hooked on the news about the latest James Bond flick, No Time To Die (Although it has been delayed for over a year). We don’t recommend to dress like a hitman (and grab a gun), we love the outfit sported by Daniel Craig. It proves that the professional color combination of navy/grey/white does not only work in an office environment. Try your version at home...
